Reflection #21 (10/4/13)

This lesson we started a whole new topic. Web 2.0, today we investigated what web 2.0 is and web 3.0 which hasn't been invented yet. web 2.0 is basically a term that indicates the Evolution of the World Wide Web, the main cause for thew invention of web 2.0 was the introduction and popularity growth of social networking, things like Facebook, Twitter, Flicker, YouTube, Google and Email.  

Reflection #20 (7/4/13)

Today in class, after a long time, we used Microsoft Publisher and we had to create a brochure to advertise EISM and the best one will be shown to our Principle Mr. Evans. I am currently working on mine but it will be posted as soon as I finish.

Reflection On Creation.

My project with Gawin was originally a robot arm that we were about to buy but because of shipping problems we weren't able to get the arm. We were trying to come up with a good original idea that most people aren't already doing. We failed. Then we went to Ms. Venna for help and she told us she'd lend us her LEGO Mindstorms. Me and Gawin were overjoyed. But with only 3 weeks till the tech fair we thought we'd be able to finish the project in time. (And we weren't allowed to take the project home do we had to give up breaks and luches) (and we were willing to) with 15 breaks and lunches to work on it (15 total hours) we thought we'd be able to finish. The first week of building went fine and we were able to make the eyes, mouth and some of the legs. We then realized we only had one more week to make it because on the 3rd week we had the Ecoventure trip for a week. But we still thought 1 more week was long enough because we only had to finish the legs and tail. But unfortunately it wasn't. On some days we weren't allowed to build it due to meetings/ break and lunch duties. And some days me and gawin were busy with other matters and weren't able to build the robot. But me and gawin believed if we were able to finish the Robot, it would defiantly make it into the tech fair. Next year we hope to make the same robot again but this time. Finish it. Here are some picture of how far we got.

Conclusion

For the 2013 EISM Tech Fair Me and my partner Gawin will be making the LEGO Mindstorms NXT 2.0 Robogator, Just because the laser's would be to difficult, and the Robogator seems eaisier and a better project for less trouble.

Laser Show: One of the reasons we're probably not going to do this project because we arent sure what softwares to use to program Laser shows

Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0 Robogator: All the hardware and software comes with the Mindstorms NXT 2.0 Set so I wont have to worry about that. and all the material for the robot comes with the set.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of My Ideas

Laser Show:
Advantages: If made correctly will look very good during Tech Fair
Disadvantages: We are not very experienced in programming and programming a laser show would take alot of time and will  be quite hard
Lasers that we want to use are illegal in the UAE

Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0 Robogator:
Advantages: we found sites with full instuctions and sites with all programming for this product soo assembling and programming will be quite easy
Disadvantages: Since we only thought of the Lego Robot not so long ago and we're only gonna start making it on the 4th, there is a slight possibility it wont be completed

Criterion: A Investigate My Two Basic Ideas (NEW AND IMPROVED)

Me and Gawin were obsessing over making a robot product but our old two ideas which were a hexapod robot and a robot arm didn’t work out unfortunately the hexapod was extremely expensive and the company making the robot arms don’t ship out of the U.S. But last week we came up with doing a laser show. This is our first idea, the Advantage is it would look very pretty if it’s done right but a HUGE disadvantage had to program the whole thing which would be difficult and hard. Our Second Idea which we are defiantly going to make is a Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0 Robogator the advantage is there are parts and instructions in making it and you have to program it and we found all the programs online the only disadvantage is we can only start tomorrow (4/3/13) and have to present on next Sunday (10/3/13)

Today me and Gawin completelty changed our project, we now decided to make a LEGO Mindstorms NXT 2.0 Robogator which we will start building tommorow and hopfully be finished by Sunday the 10th

This lesson we had a few letter and had to try make word out of them, the highest was around 35 and i got 26 words in the end we had to make one big word out of all the given letters, unfortunately I didn't get the word which was Reflection. Then letter Ms. Venna had a presentation on our design and how we have to make it good and not false advertise your project

Reflection #9 (20/2/13)

This lesson we had to write a 150 word reflection on QR codes which you will see in the post below

QR Codes

On Sunday I made my own QR Code for my Wiki and Blog. A QR Code is a matrix code made up of many squares of different sizes it is used to quickly access Websites, QR stands for quick response. So instead of having to copy a link from one electronic device to the other using your webcam you can scan the QR Code and the website will automatically open, these days QR Codes can be made and scanned with your smartphone. QR codes aren’t only used to open websites quickly now people use them to scan public transportation tickets. There are now also a few QR code phone books but aren’t that common. People have also started making QR Stores! To buy things scan the products QR and you can instantly buy it! They are easily made these days. By simply going on websites like qrstuff.com copying a website link and the code automatically generates.

Investigate- A- My Two Tech Fair Ideas

One of my ideas (that me and Gawin came up with together) was to build a hexapod robot which is a robot thats sort of like a spider but when we checked websites it all costed 500 dollars (1,800 Dirhams) soo we knew we couldn't build that. We really wanted to build a robot so we looked for other options and found a Robotic Arm [SAT100] it was resonably priced (99 dollars= 372 dhs), quite interesting and we're planning on building it.
